Amanda (NL West)
Geography and genetics made me a Red Sox fan; an interest in history made me a Dodgers fan. I don’t have a sports-loving family, really. My grandfather loved sports, but my father’s life was ruined by Bucky Dent, and my mother and sister don’t care. So it’s just me. My love is so great that someday, I would like to be a sportswriter, though I fear I lack the necessary basketball and hockey acumen, and I don’t like football. On the other hand, Bill Plaschke has a job, so I figure I have a decent shot at success.
Favorite Teams: Los Angeles Dodgers and Boston Red Sox. I also watch an unhealthy number of Phillies home games because they have Harry Kalas.
Favorite Baseball Movies: 61*, Bang the Drum Slowly, and A League of Their Own
Favorite Current Players: Tim Wakefield, David Ortiz, Russell Martin, Jim Thome, Greg Maddux, Ryan Howard, Jamie Moyer, Frank Thomas, Pedro Martinez, Carl Crawford
Favorite Retired Players: You know your list is too long when it includes Rube Waddell. But we have the same birthday, and he was left-handed, struck out everybody when pitchers didn’t strike out anybody, and wrestled alligators in the off-season. So there.
Likes: Sabermetrics, nineteenth century baseball, Connie Mack and the Philadelphia Athletics, Don Orsillo and Jerry Remy getting silly, left-handed pitchers, outfield assists, Vin Scully, not doing schoolwork because a baseball game is on
Dislikes: The DH rule, fans booing their own team, Ned Colletti, outfielders with floppy noodle arms, crappy baseball announcers, Jeff Kent’s moustache, GMs and owners who are out to ruin their teams, Dennis Eckersley’s pink shirt

My personal goal in life is to see baseball in as many different stadiums as possible. I’d like to see every major league team play a home game at some point in my life.My family is not particularly attached to sports, so the only fandom I grew up indoctrinated into was Ohio State Football. The first year I started going to baseball games, the Reds won the World Series. It’s pretty much been all down-hill from there, and yet, I soldier on. I love the writing of Bill James, Rob Neyer, Joe Posnanski, everybody at Baseball Prospectus, Bat Girl, Jay & Ryan, and the brothers Rubin.
Favorite Team: Cleveland Indians & any minor league ball I can get. I’ve got a bit of a soft spot for the Cincinnati Reds, but I don’t really follow them anymore.
Favorite Baseball Movie: Bull Durham
Favorite Current Player: Fausto Carmona
Favorite Retired Player: Chris Sabo
Likes: Long walks on the beach, A-ball, knowing the pitch count, sabermetrics, and relief pitchers.
Dislikes: People who think stats are for memorizing instead of using, Chief Wahoo, every year the Indians don’t win the world series, snow, self-congratulatory sports-blogging, and getting asked why I go to minor league games by myself.

As the great Steve Goodman once said, “I think I love baseball more than I love the Cubs, but the reason I love baseball is the Cubs.” I’ll be the first to admit, I was a bandwagon fan as a result of the 2003 playoffs. However, after a heartbreaking 2003 post season, followed by a radical 2004, an interesting 2005, a horrific 2006, and a memorial 2007, I’ve continued to devote myself to the men in blue. My love for the game has also grown, as well as my respect for the past and hope for the future. Here’s hoping for the day that the World Series parade passes along Michigan Avenue, displaying a Cubs World Series trophy for the world to see.
Favorite Team: The Chicago Cubs.
Favorite Baseball Movie: The Sandlot.
Favorite Current Player: I have many, but Mark DeRosa takes the cake, for his play on the field, and his personality off the field. Though I admit Greg Maddux is also a doll, and Scott Eyre is a helluva guy as well.
Favorite Retired Player: The ever optimistic, Ernie Banks.
Likes: The city of Chicago, and Chicago sports in general. Namely baseball, of course. I could sit at Wrigley before or after a game for hours and not get bored. Thus I adore the crappy sound system, the outdated organ music, the ancient scoreboard, the killer brick wall masked by ivy, and yes, even the falling concrete. Aside from baseball, I have a passion for art and am obsessed with the British TV show, Doctor Who. I love 2D animation, and admire hard work and persistence.
Dislikes: I’m being a hypocrite, as being a cartoonist I exploit these, but I hate stereotypes- i.e. women only like sports for the hot guys, all Cubs fans are yuppies, etc. I also hate disrespectful people, jumbo-trons, arrogant/ignorant fans, and times when the Cubs aren’t playing in October. Randomly, Mr. Red scares me. A lot.

The only way I would consider dying young would be through being trampled on Broad Street in a parade in late October. I’ve been a fan since 1994, because of the 1993 Phillies, and because I live near the Phillies’ AA affiliate. Funnily enough, I was an Indians fan growing up as well, since my uncle liked them, and neither of my parents were/are really into baseball. Um, I guess that’s about it. I don’t really even read blogs that much, outside of LiveJournal (if you even want to consider those “blog”), so it should be interesting actually writing in one.
Favorite Team: Philadelphia Phillies, and recently I’ve become fond of the Florida Marlins to a degree. I have a soft spot for the Indians too, and if I followed the AL half as much as I followed the NL, they’d be my team. And of course, where it all began, the Reading Phillies.
Since there is no place for “Least Favorite Teams”, I will make it known that while I dislike the Mets, I save my most vicious rantings and insults for the Atlanta Braves.
Favorite Baseball Movies: The Sandlot and Little Big League
Favorite Current Players: Jimmy Rollins. Kyle Kendrick. Cole Hamels. Jayson Werth. Jeremy Hermida. Alfredo Amezaga. Tom Glavine.
One of these things is not like the other? Er.
Favorite Retired Players: Mickey Morandini. Jim Eisenreich. Possibly Kenny Lofton. Steve Avery.
Again, one of these things is not like the other…
Likes: Dollar dog nights. AA-ball. Referring to CBP as “The Vet”. Pitcher duels. Announcers who don’t get all doom-and-gloom. 1990s baseball. Underdog teams. Making fun of David Wright.
Dislikes: Eagles fans at Phillies games. People assuming the Phillies’ success is solely based on their ballpark’s dimensions. Jeffrey Loria. The Tomahawk Chop. Taking the SEPTA to Phillies games (or at all). David Wright.
Pam (AL East)
For the first 18 years of my life, I wondered if I would ever see my team raise a Championship banner. Having now seen them win two in the past four seasons, now I wonder if they can become the next baseball “dynasty”. I’ve been a fan since before I can remember; growing up in Massachusetts, Red Sox baseball was pretty much a religion. Also, in the 1990’s I loved watching the Seattle Mariners (in the days of A-Rod and Griffey). I’ve never written in a “blog”, just my LiveJournal, so this should be interesting.
Favorite Team: Boston Red Sox. I also have a strange fondness for the Florida Marlins. I never followed the National League very seriously until 2006, when the Marlins were a team of rookies. I ended up watching them once on a Red Sox offday and got hooked. The Red Sox are still #1, though.
And, obviously, I hate that team from the Bronx with every ounce of my being.
Favorite Baseball Movie: Little Big League. Major League. Rookie of the Year.
Favorite Current Player: Jonathan Papelbon. Jacoby Ellsbury. Clay Buchholz. Josh Beckett. Mike Jacobs. Alfredo Amezaga. Dan Uggla. Trot Nixon (yes, still). Mike Lowell.
Favorite Retired Player: Dennis Eckersley. Jim Rice. Dwight Evans.
Likes: Baseball. Summertime. Baseball roadtrips/visiting other stadiums. Walk-off home runs. NESN. Fenway Franks.
Dislikes: The entitled nature permeating Boston lately. Bandwagon fans. New York sports teams. Jeffrey Loria. “The Wave”. The Kiss Cam at ballgames. Pink baseball shirts/hats.
